Fibromyalgia

What is Fibromy?
Fibromy Syndrome (FMS) is a common rheumatoid disorder of the muscles and bones that does not involve the joints.  FMS causes pain and fatigue, and often other symptoms such as:

  1. Disturbed sleep
  2. Depression
  3. Headaches
  4. Alternating diarrhea and constipation
  5. Numbness and tingling in the hands and feet
  6. Feelings of weakness
  7. Memory difficulties
  8. Dizziness

Cause & Treatment

The exact cause of FMS has not been known until recently.  If affects more women than men and is most widely seen in women ages 30-60.  Until recently, the only forms of treating it were:

  1. Drugs- such as low dose antidepressants to improve sleep and anti-inflammatory to decrease pain.
  2. Vitamins and supplements
  3. Lifestyle changes, such as, reducing stress levels
  4. Exercise

Even with these types of treatment, many people will continue to have symptoms.

Exciting New Research on Treatment

According to a new research study published in the Journal of Rheumatology, the unexplained pain experienced in patients with FMS is the result of a mismatch between sensory and motor systems.  “We have shown that by confusing the motor and sensory systems we can exacerbate the symptoms felt by people diagnosed with this condition.  This adds to a growing body of evidence that many of the symptoms of this common disorder may be perpetuated, or even triggered, by this sensory-motor conflict.  We have some success to date by using a similar technique to help alleviate the symptoms of this kind of chronic pain…” There is “strong evidence that sensory-motor conflict is at the heart of this condition”, states Dr. Candy McCabe, one of the researchers in the study.

How the ISP helps Fibromyalgia

The data in this research study confirms and explains why and how the ISP helps patients with FMS.  When you treat the sensory system (the eyes, and ears, which are your two largest senses) as well as the vestibular system, our program puts those systems in the brain back into balance.  When the sensory and motor systems are confused, they are working at a deregulated state.  The more confused they are, the more pain the person experiences.

Headaches

Many people notice when they enter certain stores or office environments, where there is fluorescent lighting, that they will get a migraine or other type of headache.  This is known as a sensory headache and may be completely relieved by treating it using phototherapy.  People who often experience these types of headaches have often gone for years not knowing the cause.  They have been to Chiropractors, medical doctors, and allergists with no success.  People are finding hope and help with our treatment program.  Sign up for individual treatments or for a more comprehensive and intense approach.
