The ISP is a drug-free, technology-driven program that uses phototherapy, auditory training & vestibular stimulation to remediate problems related to processing light, sound & other stimuli. Rather than treating symptoms, the ISP addresses the root of the problem: brain processing & integration.
How does the ISP help? When light enters the eye, besides going to the visual centers, it goes to the pineal and hypothalamus glands of the brain. The pineal gland is the master regulator of Melatonin. Melatonin is a derivitative of Tryptophan, which causes one to sleep. The production of Melatonin by the pineal gland is stimulated by darkness and inhibited by light. When the eyes do not process light properly, they can actually be receiving too much light. This inability to process light can also affect the brain’s ability to process darkness, thereby causing a dysfunction in the working of the pineal gland. When we retrain the visual fields to process light in a more balanced fashion, improvements in sleep occur.
